Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia has hailed the university’s strong alumni and their success stories around the world.

Prof Anjum made the remarks during a meeting with much-celebrated alumnus of the University of The Gambia, Ousman Touray.

Mr Touray, who studied Development Studies at the UTG, was accompanied by the Director of University Relations to a warm reception at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

“As educators, we succeed when our students succeed and we are very happy with the work that you are doing across the continent”, V.C Prof. Anjum said.

He expressed delight over the news he continues to receive about the work of the University’s alumni including Ousman Touray.

For his part, Ousman Touray said he was humbled by the support of the UTG Management. “It’s an honour to serve as ambassador of the very institution I studied in. I think every young person should be working to address our problems,” he said.

Ousman will work with the University in organising a conference on leadership and youth participation in politics. The conference is expected to feature prominent speakers such as the former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and renown Kenyan lawyer and Pan African Prof. P. L. O. Lumumba .

“We want you to go out to the world with the knowledge, confidence and values that the University of The Gambia has instilled in you”, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Gomez told Ousman.

Ousman made headlines after a video of him emerged speaking about contemporary issues confronting the African continent and why its youth “have to stay in Africa, develop Africa and then show the world that Africa has a better image than the one they portray in the West”.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin & Finance) Professor Jain, highlighted the journey of the University while emphasizing how one can achieve successes with hardwork.

“Our alumni can be found lecturing in top universities in the U.S and around the world. If you work hard our system will reward you and the world will reward you.” Prof. Jain adduced.

Director of Univerity Relations Mr. Mbakeh Camara said that this is part of the University’s wider strategy of engaging its graduates in an effort to advance the course of development.

Ousman recently completed a mentorship program in Rwanda, a country where he is awarded a scholarship to pursue post graduate programme on Public Policy.
