Uhuru Kenyatta Officially Launched The Shs 1.9 Billion School Furniture Project
President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has today September 17 , 2020 officially launched the Shs 1.9 billion school furniture project that will see hundreds of Jua kali artisans ( locally furniture makers) around the country supply 650,000 locally assembled desks, in preparation for reopening of schools next year.
Besides equipping secondary and primary schools, the project is said to be part of the government’s post-Covid-19 economic stimulus program, is aimed at boosting the jua kali sector.
Speaking during the launch at a furniture workshop in Umoja estate, Nairobi County, Republic of Kenya , the President said the project is modeled on the ongoing Kazi Mtaani youth employment initiative.
Hundreds of Jua kali artisans around the country are expected to benefit from the program in the coming weeks. The project is tagged Uhuru-nomics .
